Artist Biography

Rhys Stermer is an American tenor whose work is shaped by vocal warmth, stylistic versatility, and a strong connection to text and dramatic line. Originally from a small cattle farm in upstate New York and now based in New Jersey, he brings discipline, focus, and careful musicianship to his work.

He earned his undergraduate training in Voice and Opera Performance at Purchase Conservatory of Music and continued there for graduate study in Voice and Opera Studies.

Rhys has studied and coached with Jacque Trussel, Bonnie Hamilton, Hugh Murphy, Susan Caldwell, Djordje Nesic, Deborah Montgomery, and Frank Brown. His stage work at Purchase includes Alfred in Die Fledermaus; Arnalta, Soldato, Lucano, and Liberto in L’incoronazione di Poppea; Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors; Laërte and Polonius in Hamlet; Hexe in Hänsel und Gretel; Tamino and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte; Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro; and Le Mari in Les Mamelles de Tirésias.
